We had the opportunity to review Semester 1 Bundle (including 5 weeks of Absolute Beginner bonus content + the 13 weeks of Semester 1) from Guitar 360 Method, an online guitar program.
I cannot think of a better way for me to close the Homeschool Review Crew 2018 year than with a review of a music curriculum. I grew up playing several instruments and wanted my children to do the same, or at least play one instrument. So far, we have been successful at including music instrument study in our school. One of those instruments is the guitar and the Guitar 360 Method has helped my children hone their skills.
When this review became available, I was really hoping to be one of the students participating on the review. Despite the convenience of an online, self-paced course, I just was not able to find time to work through the course now. Well, fortunately, Lily and Canyon were able to step up and take my place.
Lily is my five-instrument playing child and Canyon is my guitar playing, wants to play drum child. Using Guitar 360 Method has been a great fit for both of my children who are at different skill levels playing the guitar.
Guitar 360 Method comes to an electronic device (ex: computer, iPad, etc.) near you with recorded guitar instruction presented by Krisz Simonfalv – artist, producer, teacher and awesome guitar player. Simonfalvi’s background is with classical guitar training, which he began at the age of six. He eventually moved away from playing the guitar, but picked it up again in his teens. This time around, learning to play the guitar was different. It is that difference that Simonfalvi incorporates into the Guitar 360 Method.
Simonfalvi’s teaches the guitar, every bit of it. Students not only gain an understanding of the instrument itself, but learn to play the notes (fingering) and understand how the notes and chords sound (being able to recognize both when heard). Playing an instrument is an experience. Simonfalvi’s passion for playing the guitar comes through in the lessons and teaches students how to enjoy and appreciate that experience.
Lily and Canyon worked through the lessons together. Having a partner by his side during the lessons was a plus for Canyon. I think they both rather enjoyed learning together and playing together. The lessons are really short, but each focus on a specific skill. There are 100 lessons and each has a working goal for what the student is to learn that week. After the lesson, there is a practice session. I like that he encourages students to be creative in their play: Copy what he plays, but create their own unique version of the song.
This is an example of a scale lesson. The lesson is interactive and the dots move along the screen as he changes notes. If you think learning via video is not possible, this is a great example of why it is not. The videos are extremely high quality and the instruction is well planned. Your child can use this course for personal use or towards high school credit (I am always thinking high school).
If your child is interested in learning how to play the guitar, can hold a guitar and sit for the lessons, they will enjoy the Guitar 360 Method lessons. It is a great course for that child through adults.
I am a die-hard Journey fan (Steve Perry only), so of course, I loved one of the first songs they learned how to play, which was Don’t Stop Believin’. This is Lily and Canyon playing the song for me.
Some of the comments Lily shared about the course:
“He is very easy to understand and explains a lot. He was passionate and focused on the skill and teaching. The whole purpose was to play and to love playing and I do. The lessons are specific and to the point, so you can easily really grasp it.”
Canyon . . .
“It would be cool to play like Krisz.”
Lily and Canyon are going to continue working through the lessons. Canyon is now getting the private lessons he wanted from home.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
For a limited time, you may purchase Guitar 360 Method and receive 20 percent off when you enter the code HOMESCHOOL20 at checkout. The regular price is $149, which includes the three-week Beginners’ Course, Semester 1 (13 weeks long) and the 2 Bonus Song mini-courses. That is only $119.20 for 10+ hours of video content! Hmm. That is not a bad deal for self-paced guitar lessons from a professional.
If you are interested in the course, but just don’t have a lot of time right now (like me), you may be added to the Guitar 360 Method e-mail list to be kept up to date on new courses, discounts and more.
