We had the opportunity to review physical products of Manuka Oil and Active Manuka Honey Shampoo and Conditioner, and Emu Oil by Koru Naturals.
Every once in a while, through the Schoolhouse Review Crew, I have the opportunity to review products that are not specifically curriculum. This was one of those chances. What I like about many of the care products I have reviewed through the crew is they are often natural items.
Koru Naturals is a New Zealand-based company that makes a variety of natural substance products {https://korunaturals.com/products.php} using ingredients like manuka honey, tree tea and rosehip oil. The company also ensures no animal testing is involved in the making of the products they sell.
I have used quite a few natural products, but I was not familiar with Emu Oil and its benefits. The comments from satisfied customers gave me an idea of the variety of ways Emu Oil has been effective for so many people.
Koru Naturals sells Emu Oil as a moisturizer. It is 100 percent Grade A and has no preservatives or additives, a fact I like. It may be applied often throughout the day and it is suggested that only a drop or two is used, so that it is not too oily.
During the winter months, keeping my skin moisturized is always a challenge. Although I usually take showers, due to the lack of leisure time for a bath, I decided to pamper myself and take some baths using Emu Oil for an all-body treatment.
The oil in the product did keep my skin from being really dry. I found it more effective and easier to use in the bath rather than applying it directly to my skin, which is another option. It does absorb into the skin well, but I did not like using the oil like a lotion and having to worry about applying too much and having to worry about my skin being too oily.
I let my daughter use the Manuka Oil and Active Manuka Honey Shampoo and Conditioner, which she was happy to have all on her own. My daughter has multiracial hair and finding products for her texture that clean the hair without completely stripping it of its natural oils and conditions it enough, so it doesn’t dry, has not been easy. I have found some products that work well, but the chemical list in its ingredients is not what I want her using on her hair.
She only needed a small drop in her hair to wash through the shampoo. Both the shampoo and conditioner have soothing scents, which makes the products even more appealing. After using the shampoo, her hair not only smelled good, but did not fell squeaky clean, which meant her natural hair oils were not stripped. She left the leave-in conditioner in for the recommended up to five minutes. Then, she also left it in for a longer period of time and was able to style her hair leaving in the conditioner.
Koru Naturals lists the ingredients for both products on its website. Although there are some chemicals used (ex: Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate – foaming agent and emulsifier) in the products, they appear to be the safer chemical option for achieving the same result that a more damaging chemicals would create.
We enjoyed using Koru Natural products. My daughter will continue to use the shampoo, since it appears to be effective and has not left her hair dry after washing.
I still have plenty of Emu Oil, because it goes a long way. I found it to be most useful on my dry skin this season and will have it on hand when fall and winter come around again.
