We had the opportunity to review the CHSH Download Club, which was created by CHSH-Teach.com.
CHSH-Teach.com is one of those products you don’t know you need until you have it. When I started homeschooling, I often created my own worksheets. I knew what I wanted, so I made it. The process worked well for me, but making the worksheets was very time consuming. Add that to the actual task of teaching and that was a whole lot of wasted time. If you are into worksheets, how do over 50,000 forms from which to choose to use in your homeschool sound to you? Of those 50,000, some are free to anyone and others are subscriber items only. That is where the CHSH Download Club comes in handy.
Lynda Ackert, the creator of CHSH (Christian HomeSchool Hub), has been in education for more than 20. During that time, she worked in the public school system, but later returned home to home educate her children. It was her love of creating educational materials that is behind the CHSH, which she created in 2010. The material on her website is for educating children in kindergarten through the twelfth grade.
As previously mentioned, Ackert gives free access to a number of her worksheets, but if you want a whole lot more, the CHSH Download Club is the place to join. When you visit the CHSH website, you land on the home page, which has a current monthly calendar using Google Calendar. On the calendar, Ackert has included a number of historical daily events, observances and holidays for planning your studies. That just gives you an idea of what to expect once you join the CHSH Download Club.
Along with the thousands of worksheets already available, Ackert is constantly adding new sheets. There were three new ones added today. If you print the sheets you need and don’t return to CHSH for a few days, you may search for the newest worksheets by category, topic or keyword. So, you won’t miss anything that was added and do not have to look through all of the worksheets to see what is new.
Science is always a favorite with my children. Canyon just loves science and my daughter, Lily, wants to become a veterinarian. Along with worksheets that are grade specific in the science topics (i.e. kindergarten through third and fourth through eighth) there are worksheets for chemistry, biology, cytology, ecology and more. We are currently studying about land animals. Some of the worksheets we used were the cytology animal cell poster and an animal cell coloring worksheet. We also used some of the Herpetology amphibians and reptiles worksheets. They were nice additions to our current study and enhanced our learning.
Some other worksheets we enjoyed using are the American Sign Language sheets. We have studied ASL in the past. The worksheets we used not only have a picture of the hand position of the letter, but also a penmanship area (manuscript or cursive of upper or lowercase letters) and pictures or words that begin with the letter. Other resources in this section include flashcards, coloring sheets, posters and a reference poster. Lily also spent some time reviewing her French using the French Teaching Resources. She reviewed common phrases, common words and numbers and learned how to say some parts of the body, food items and school items in French.
We spent most of our time in the Science and Languages subject areas, but there are so many other subjects covered in CHSH. Some of the other subjects with worksheets are Bible, Arts, Music & Crafts, Math, Health, Social Studies and more. Some other sheets are Electives that cover Architecture, Character Studies, Social Issues and Safety Education and Jewish/Israel History. Some other sections that may be helpful to parents are General Organization (ex: “How to” Homeschooling Resources – Dr. Montessori’s Handbook, How to Study, Planning forms, etc.). It is really impossible to share about all of the worksheet resources in CHSH. If you are studying it, there is probably a worksheet in CHSH for you to use.
