We had the opportunity to review Kwik Stix 12 pk from The Pencil Grip, Inc.
I love arts and crafts, but do not love the mess that comes along with the experience. The pieces of colored paper that have been cut into teeny tiny pieces is the not the problem. I can even handle the glue that sometimes sticks things together that you do not want stuck. What has always been the challenge is when my children want to bring out the paint. I have often steered them in another direction when they mention their desire to use paint. Visions of paint on clothes, paint on the table, paint in the bathroom (trying to clean up) and paint spilling on the floor always appears before I think of the creative experience my children will have. That is definitely a way to kill an educational and fun opportunity. “You may be creative as long as it does not involve paint!” My children are tired of hearing that and I am tired of saying it.
In steps Kwik Stix by the Pencil Grip, Inc. The company name, Pencil Grip, is from a product that was created by educational therapist Dr. Lois Provda in 1992. That item has enabled many to write more comfortably with proper hand positioning, reducing hand fatigue that may occur. If you have a child who is struggling with gripping his pencil or holding it properly (like the fingertips are kissing), you may want to consider using a Pencil Grip.
For more than 20 years, the family-based company has continued to bring original and unique products to the general public that have been useful in all areas of life. One of those items is Kwik Stix. It is a cool name and you may be wondering what are Kwik Stix. They are tempura paint sticks – paint in a tube. Simple, yes. Cool, definitely. Cool for all of the reasons I shared above that have kept our painting experiences from happening.
Before when we used paint, I would distribute a paint allotment of each color on a paper plate for each child. Each would also have his own water cup for rinsing and his own set of paint brushes. That is a lot of stuff on the table. And please be careful not to knock the water.
Canyon wasn’t sure what to first do with the stick, because well, we have never seen paint in a solid stick form. The sticks easily moves across regular, dries in 90 seconds – we didn’t time it, but there was no smearing as he created – and there was no mess to clean up after he was finished.
“It was fun to use and they are cool!” ~ Canyon
I am so impressed with this product that I purchased a second set of colors in the 12-pack as well as a set of neon colors for all of my children to use. Along with coloring pencils, crayons and markers, Kwik Stix are an essential tool to promote art in our home.
We have not put away all paint brushes for the full painting experience, but at least now when my children tell me they want to paint, my response is more likely a ‘yes’ than it is a ‘no’.
You may purchase the Kwik Stix 12 pk for $11.99.
