I had the opportunity to review My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) program by MySchoolYear.com.
Getting it all together for a new school year has not been as easy as I would like. I am enjoying the process, but there is just so much to do. I usually keep my records on paper using a pencil, but that leads to a whole lot of different pieces of paper I have to keep up with all of the time. I am a note taker, so I end up with a lot of pads of my school year plans for three children. To say I need organization is definitely an understatement. Having the opportunity to review My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping), an online record keeping program, has been a nice opportunity to see if I can bring some semblance of order to my our school year.
In the past, I have scheduled week-to-week. That has been tedious and led to scrambled weeks of school. My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) gives me the ability to plan my entire school year and have it readily available at my fingertips. I am now considering whether or not I will plan through the entire year or just do one half of a school year. Either way will allow me to see the bigger picture.
Along with subjects, I have to keep track of attendance for my children. We are required to complete 180 days. We homeschool year-round, so achieving that is never a problem. I also have an eighth grade student and I will need to do a good job of keeping track of the courses he takes for credit. My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) offers a number of features.
These are just some of the features I will be able to use as I prepare for the new school year:
Organizational Tools
automated grading and attendance tracking, lesson plan generators and more.
Tracking, Reviewing, Reporting
Activities Tracking, which will be good for our extra-curricular activities like music, gymnastics, soccer and more. We are active in a number of sports and other activities. The children receive school credit for these and keeping track of practices as well as competitions is something I have to juggle.
Dashboard
I can see everything I have planned for our school year or each student.
Lesson Plan Sharing
I will be including my husband in the backend of school this year. Along with being able to share lesson plans with him, I will be able to easily make edits to the lesson plans I create.
Support & Security
MySchoolYear.com offers support via telephone and e-mail for any issues that may arise. I love that they respond quickly to e-mails (one business day).
I started setting up Lily’s school year with some of the material we will use in the fall. It was easier than starting with River, because it will call for more detail. I have some of her courses started and was able to only enter some classes. I was a bit limited on what I could enter for our next session, because I am still waiting on our school books and other items to arrive.
If you have a high school student or a child earning school credit, there are some features that will be helpful to you. You will have the ability to create transcripts and reports cards, which they may need for college.
My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) has features that will aid a homeschool parent to keep track of the backend of their homeschool. Having too much to do and not a whole lot of time when it comes to educating our children, My School Year’s program can be a great help. I look at My School Year (Homeschool Record Keeping) as the bones of a homeschool. They must be strong (organized) for a homeschoool to run smoothly. MySchoolYear.com is available for $5 per month or $40 per year.
