We had the opportunity to review When Calls the Heart, Heart of the Family, which is a DVD movie sold by FishFlix.com.
We have family movie night in our house at least once a week. That means we pop kernel corn; snuggle together and spend some quality time together as a family. As my children have gotten older, finding a film that is suitable for all ages in our family has been a challenge for me. We have often had to watch some movies more than once, because I know the content is appropriate and I do not have to mute or cover eyes if something crosses the screen or is said, that we may find offensive, in the film we are viewing.
Companies like FishFlix.com is making my movie search easier. “Christian movies to inspire and entertain” is its motto and there are hundreds of movies from which to choose for family movie night or just any time of watching movies where the content is one you can bring home to your family.
FishFlix.com is owned by Lukas Media, which is a distributor of Christian films wholesale and online through FishFlix.com. You do not have to be a Christian to enjoy one of the many DVD movies available through FishFlix.com.
One of the movie selections available to us for review was When Calls the Heart, Heart of the Family, which is based on the book series When Calls the Heart by Janette Oke. This may be old news to many, but the series has been brought to television. You may laugh at me, but earlier this year, I had never heard of When Calls the Heart. If you have not either, you have two seasons to catch up. My daughter and sons (yes) watched back-to-back episodes of season one in less than one week.
If you know anything about Oke, she writes romances and When Calls the Heart, Heart of the Family makes your heart swoon. There is more than romance, but Oke knows her genre well and her stories are pleasing to one who seeks that type of content.
All of the familiar characters are in When Calls the Heart, Heart of the Family including Elizabeth Thatcher; Abigail Stanton; Bill Avery and of course, Jack Thornton. The DVD is the third film of When Calls the Heart Season 2 and takes viewers to Hope Valley where Elizabeth volunteers to care for the children and homestead of a neighbor. In the beginning, as when she accepted her teaching position in Coal Valley, Elizabeth realizes she has taken on more than she expected. True to character, she rises to the occasion with assistance from Jack, and we remember why we love to see the two of them together. That experience is interrupted when Elizabeth’s former beau, Charles Kensington, arrives in town.
I was already anticipating the arrival of this DVD. I did not tell my children we would be reviewing it, because I wanted it to be a surprise. We immediately watched it when it was delivered. It was not our scheduled family night, but it did not matter and the movie did not disappoint. The content of the movie, as with the series, is typical Hollywood romance (beautiful girl and handsome man), but without the lewd behavior. The language is clean; the story is fun and one you will be able to enjoy with all members in your family.
For additional enjoyment, the DVD includes behind the scene interviews.
