We had the opportunity to review the Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women from Zondervan.
Well, we have come to the end of a homeschool crew year. The year has been a blast. I cannot think of a better way to complete the review year than with a Bible devotional as we prepare for a new year.
The year 2018 has been one full of a lot of commotion for my family. We have had great tragedy and there has also been cause for celebration. It has been a life changing year. Staying close to the Lord and reading my Bible have been great comforts. There is always a word that will carry you through one day, one week, one month and more.
The Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women is that little bit more that has been added to our days. It is not a Bible. It is a devotional for young women with 365 days of daily readings of encouraging verses from the Bible. Author Lindsey A. Franklin has chosen selected passages from the Bible that focus not only on familiar women like Esther, Mary and Ruth, but other lessor known women like Abigail.
I have watched Lily’s Christian walk grow over the past two years. It is absolutely amazing and makes me so happy to see her love for the Lord flourish. Because of that, I thought it was best she was the one to review the devotional.
Lily carries her Bible with her everywhere and the Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women has become the second book she now carries with her everywhere we go.
The devotional starts Day 1 with Song of Songs 4:7 and finishes Day 365 with Galatians 3:28. the daily readings are short, like most devotionals. Each page has a verse to read and Franklin elaborates (interprets) in a paragraph the verse as well as how it applies to our lives. Each day has a topic that is pertinent to the lives of young women.
Comments from Lily:
Talks about what it means to be a wife and encourages me daily. It makes me smile and I keep it by my bed, so I can view it in the morning when I wake up.
The relationship between Sarah and Hagar was destroyed after Sarah asked the latter to bear her husband’s child. Even now, we do not wait for God to come through. We try to fix things or make things happen in our own time instead of wait for God to prevail. It is good to be proactive, but we also have to learn to wait on the Lord.
The Beloved: 365 Devotions for Young Women is a beautifully designed, hardback book. It comes with a ribbon marker to save the page where you leave off. The pages have a matte finish, which I prefer in my books. The finish allows you to easily use a pencil or pen when adding notes to the daily readings. It is a pretty book.
The devotional in no way replaces the Bible, but is a nice resource for a young women who may not have time to read a story from the Bible, but wants an encouraging word to begin or carry her throughout the day.
