We had the opportunity to review the Family Plan from Accountable2You.
Accountability. We all need it. I think it becomes even more of an issue when it comes to access to the Internet and the use of electronic devices. Before the Internet and electronic devices, offline accountability was enough of a challenge. Do not get me wrong. I love all of the wonders of the Internet and you will often find an electronic device in my hand.
Accountable2You has been keeping people accountable for more than 10 years. Ben Lawrence created the program for the use by him and his wife. As Christians, accountability is very important to both of them. Lawrence uses Galatians 6:1b, “Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted” as the foundation of the mission for Accountable2You. It is so easy to slip into sin. Along with all of the good that is available to us on the Internet, there are a lot of opportunities to be introduced to illicit content. None of us is immune. Because of that, we all need a little help along the way. Traveling the Christian road together is better with a friend and one who will keep you accountable. Accountable2You can help you and your family with that need.
Accountable2You is an accountability program that is supported on several electronic devices. The program works cell phones, iPads and computers. There are four plans from which to choose that include an individual, family, group or business. Regardless of your lifestyle, all areas are able to be covered where you may be held accountable for how you use your electronic devices.
We had the opportunity to review the Family Plan. The Family Plan allows members to cover up to 20 different devices. If you have a family, the family plan is probably the best. If you have a family like mine, there are a number of devices being used by your family members. We have five members, seven computers, four iPads and three cell phones. All of these devices are supported by Accountable2You. That is really not a lot of devices for our size of family, but that is a lot to have to keep up with or monitor. See all devices and platforms that are supported by the program.
Some of the features included in the program are the ability to choose accountability partner(s), track all actions on devices on which the program is on and to monitor when it is used. In the development of the program, Lawrence addressed some of the issues he experienced when he used other accountability programs. With all of the features include in the program, it does not affect the functionality of the device on which it is added. The user, obviously, is able to use the device.
I spoke with my children before installing the program onto anything. I think that is something very important to do. I made sure they understood it was not a matter of me not trusting them, but rather a matter of how much I care for them. I care about them and care about their hearts, minds and souls. It was added to their shared cellphone and their individual iPads. Setting up the accounts is easy. Accountable2You is very user-friendly in the backend.
The program is cool in what it tracks. You may choose words that you want the program to “catch.” If any of those words were used, I received an alert notifying me. I can also set usage hours for devices, so if the device is used out of my approved hours, I will be notified. One feature we did not use was the GPS tracking, which can monitor where your child goes when they leave the house.
I will say that I was challenged in using Accountable2You, just because addressing the issue of temptation, let alone sexual temptation is a sensitive subject. Even so, it is one that must be addressed. Accountable2You provides a wonderful tool for monitoring the actions of those you love as well as provides an opportunity to discuss the issue of Internet safety and sexual purity.
Even if you do not think the issue exists in your home, the program is one you may want to consider trying. Accountability does not have to be a bad thing. If there are issues, Accountable2You will help you discover them.
Accountable2You is available for $6.99 month for up to six devices and up to $9.99 month for up to 20 devices.
