We had the opportunity to review a physical copy of the Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series by the Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh.
You never really know what to expect when a celebrity steps out of their public persona and decides to write a children’s book series. Several have done it and been moderately successful. Others have done so and their popularity has only grown with the title of author added to their credits. Rush Limbaugh is a well-known radio talk show host and conservative political commentator. Everyone has an opinion about him from what they have heard on the radio. Regardless of where you fall in your love of Rush, you and your children will probably love the Rush Revere series.
Rush and his wife, Kathryn Adams, have partnered and written the five-book series Adventures of Rush Revere by the Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh. I had already heard of the Rush Revere series, but never really pursued the books. The first book in the series earned Limbaugh the Author of the Year Award at the Children’s Choice Book Awards in 2014. Over the four years since the first book was published, the series has continued to garner popularity among young readers and their parents.
The series includes five titles that take readers on a journey promising to make learning about American history fun. The books are geared towards children and teens, but I would say adults will also enjoy reading through the books. Readers are introduced to substitute history teacher Rush Revere, and his talking horse, Liberty. That already gives you a clue these stories are not your regular history lesson.
Walking through the titles, the series begins with Book 1 – Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims where readers join Mr. Revere, Liberty and meeting significant people like the Pilgrims and Squanto. We continue in Book 2 – Rush Revere and First Patriots as readers learn about the are introduced to King George III of Great Britain, Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry. History continues with Book 3 – Rush Revere and the American Revolution. We have not studied the American Revolution, so we learned a lot from that book. Some of the people we meet are John Hancock and George Washington. This history was a little bit more familiar to us. The stories continue with Book 4 – Rush Revere and the Star-Spangled Banner was our favorite title because it takes readers through Washington D.C. and we learned about the American government. Book 5 – Rush Revere and the Presidency concludes with Cam, who has been a character throughout the previous four books in the series, runs for student-body president.
Along with the historical aspects of the series, the Limbaughs present characters from which young readers may learn a lot. Seeing the journey our country has traveled encourages them to support and be proud of the country in which we live.
I think writing the book in the first person makes them even more engaging, as if Mr. Revere is speaking directly to the reader.
The Adventures of Rush Revere Book Series is a fun way to introduce children to some of the significant events that happened in history. The books work well to be used as living history books (on the light side) or as supplements to an American history study. We will be studying American history this fall, but I decided to allow my children to go ahead read through the books. They are engaging and I knew after they started reading the series, I was not going to be able to easily pull them away. If you are looking a fun summer read, the Adventures of Rush Revere by the Adventures of Rush Revere #1 New York Times Bestselling Book Series by Rush and Kathryn Adams Limbaugh is on you may want to add to their summer reading list.
